Step 1. There are two kinds of basic turns you can do on a skateboard. One, is a manual turn which consists of you lifting up your front trucks and pointing the board in the direction you please. Two, is simply shifting you wait in the direction you want to go while riding the board.

Step 2. To do a manual turn get moving at comfortable speed on your skateboard. Bend your knees, put pressure on the back of your board so the front of your board comes off the the ground but not to far that your back of your board hits the ground, move the board in the direction you want, once your in the direction you want put your weight back on the front of the board so it goes back on the ground.

Step 3. The second way you can turn is easier. Simply move at a comfortable speed and place your back foot on the tail of your board and your front foot over the front bolts right over the trucks, then shift your weight in the direction you want to go (left or right). Once your done turning go back into your natural skate position.
Conclusion:

In conclusion turning essential to skateboarding. I recommend learning the second method of turning first then trying to learn the manual turn. The first method of turning is good if you want to turn over long distance and the manual turn is good if you want to make a fast turn over a short distance.
