How To Skateboard: The Basics

Posted by Edwin | 3:19 PM

Today we are going to cover how to find your stance on the actual skateboard (more on this later) and how to ride the actual deck. Pretty basic stuff that will literally take you ten minutes times to do. Lets begin.

Stance

In skateboarding there are three stances that you can ride in.

Regular: Regular stance is when you have your left foot in front and your right foot in the back. This is the most common stance among skaters.

Goofy: Goofy stance is basically the opposite of regular stance. You have your left foot in the front and your back foot in the back.

Mongo: Mongo stance is used by the select few and involves pushing your board with your front foot. If your confused don't be. Do not even attempt riding mongo. It just looks weird.

A quick tip to find out your stance is to put on some socks and run around in your house and slide. You should either slide Regular or Goofy. If one position feels weird switch to the other one.

Riding

After finding out your stance get on your board and push with your back foot and put more pressure on your front foot. Try holding on to something while doing this to avoid falling.

Those are the basics to skateboarding. Good luck. Remember to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
